WEST AFRICA /EAST AFRICA POETRY EXCHANGE
FOR YOUNG POETS RESIDING IN WEST AFRICA /EAST AFRICA REGIONS
The idea behind this collaboration is to create a literary and creative exchange between the young poets residing in both WEST AFRICA and EAST AFRICA regions. The project is also geared towards publishing the unpublished poets residing in both regions.
Aims of the Project
  • To network and link young poets from both regions together.
  • To enhance, hone and sharpen their literary creativity
  • To discover new literary talents.
  • To produce an anthology (Both in Printed and E-Book Format).
  • To share literary custom, tradition, ethics, history and culture through written poems.
  • To promote the spirit of literary unity in Africa
Eligibility
  • Language Medium – English
  • Poetry Type – Any.
  • Participants should be between the ages of 10 and 35.
  • Poems should be between the minimum of 10 lines and maximum of 50lines.
  • Entrants should include the followings alongside their works – Country, State, Age, Location, Short Profile, Where you heard about the Call for Entries, Tel. No. and A Sentence of not more than 50 words describing the poem.
  • Permission to publish your work among the shortlisted entries.
  • All entries must be submitted to: societyofyoungnigerianwriters@gmail.com and copy to eayoungwriters@gmail.com latest by November 31st, 2014.
  • Any signs of plagiarism may disqualify the contestant.

Nigerian Women Writers’ Forum (NIWOWF) is a literary organization that engages and involves female writers in Nigeria to create a network of mentoring and support. It is also an avenue for young and aspiring female writers conversant in the country’s major indigenous languages – Hausa, Yoruba and Igbo. Another major objective of this platform is to publish, enhance, hone and market works of aspiring and promising women writers in Nigeria.

AIMS AND OBJECTIVES OF NIGERIAN WOMEN WRITERS’ FORUM (NIWOWF)
1.      To create an avenue where female writers between the ages of 10 and 40 can share ideas, brainstorm and enhance their creative writing skills and techniques.
2.      To publish, market and promote their works
3.      To organize workshops, fora , symposia and conferences for both the upcoming and aspiring female writers in the country.
4.      To institute Nigerian Women Writers Merit Award and Annual Nigerian Women Writers Convention.

RYTHMS OF HOPE - GIVE US OUR CHIBOK GIRLS
(A Collection of Literary works on the missing girls of Chibok and the views of Nigerian female writers against the demoniac activities of Boko Haram in the country)
Preamble
On the night of 14-15 April 2014, 276 female students were kidnapped from the Government Secondary School in the town of Chibok in Borno State, Nigeria. The kidnappings are claimed by Boko Haram, an Islamic Jihadist and terrorist organization based in Northeast Nigeria.
As of 29 June, more than 200 students were still missing. Boko Haram has said that it wants to  sell the girls.
The Nigerian Government has then been heavily criticized for failing to protect the population and end Boko Haram terrorist actions.  Aftermath, the student are being forced into Islam and into marriage with members of Boko Haram, with a reputed ‘bride price’ of N2,000 each. Many of the students were  taken to the neigbouring countries of Chad and Cameroon with sightings reported of the students crossing borders with the militants and sightings of the students  by villagers living in the Sambisa Forest. The forest is considered a refuge for Boko Haram.
Criteria for submissions
1.      The Call is open only for Nigerian female writers between the ages of 10 and 40.
2.      Genre – Poetry, Prose, Drama (Playlet), Articles, Essays
3.      Minimum of two and maximum of 3 poems
